Sports Performance

Sports PerformanceWhether you are a professional athlete, high school athlete or a weekend warrior, Dunn Physical Therapy is proud to offer a Sports Performance Program designed specifically for the athlete and their sport. Contact sports are not the only sports that can lead to injury. Golf, swimming, soccer, ballet are also one of many strenuous sports that can leave your body injury prone.

Our Sports Performance therapist will work with the patient to maximize his/her performance and to also help prevent future injuries. Our trained and certified Physical Therapists will focus on muscular balancing and movement mechanics to help improve strength, range of motion, balance, posture, flexibility, mechanics, coordination, endurance and overall mobility.

Different injuries call for different types of therapy. Key components in any rehabilitation plan include education about the cause of the problem, exercise to improve function and full participation on the part of the patient. While there are many types of exercises to help aid in the healing process, we may treat the athlete with massage therapy, physical therapy integrated with Pilates, aquatic therapy and other specialized manual therapy techniques.

Every athlete should be aware that some sport injuries can present differently on each individual. Foot pain does not always mean a stress fracture. It can simply be tight calf muscles pulling on the tendons. Knee pain does not always mean a serious knee injury. It can be as simple as a tight IT Band. Keeping your body properly tuned and keeping you in tune with your body will help aid in injury prevention.

What is involved in The Sports Performance Program?

  • Sport-specific evaluation by a Physical Therapist
  • Measurement of range of motion, flexibility, strength, balance and coordination
  • Determination of sport specific requirement for optimal performance
  • Detailed evaluation report will be given to the athlete and/or parent.
  • Treatment will progress the imbalanced body to a balanced system that will help prevent injuries and take the athlete to a higher level of performance

This program is recommended for any individual that participates in a sport and for those that exercise on a regular basis. You will see immediate results in your performance and feel them as well.
